NV TBT 01-23-14

New Vrindaban’s Transcendental “Throwback Thursday” – 01/23/14.

Each week we highlight an earlier era of ISKCON New Vrindaban.

This week’s challenge: Identify the three devotees in the photo.

Extra credit: Name the two young oxen as well.

Post your guesses on the “who, what, when & where” in the comment section at the New Vrindaban Facebook Page.

Technical stuff: We share the photo Thursday and confirm known details Sunday. Let’s keep it light and have a bit of fun!

Special request: If you have a photo showing New Vrindaban devotees in action, share it with us and we’ll use it in a future posting.

This week a number of people correctly guessed the main three devotees in the photo.

That list includes: Advaita, Madri, Gaura Shakti & Kirtiraja.

Several people correctly identified the location as well.

A few people guessed about the oxen but only Tilakini named them both.

As an added bonus, Kirtiraja prabhu shared a tribute to the cowherds of New Vrindaban yore:

“I remember spending time with Devakinandana. One day and he showed me the records he kept for the cows; including birth dates, their parents, dates they went into heat, dates they were bred, who the bull was that provided the semen via artificial insemination, who their offspring were, and all the same info for those animals as they grew up. His records were so thorough and complete. I never expected it. Not because it was Devakinandana, but because I didn’t realize that such record keeping was absolutely essential in responsible animal husbandry. I was amazed.”

Here’s the info we have:

Who (from left to right):

Yudhistira (left, wearing a red plaid shirt)

Devakinandana (middle, with arms crossed)

Daivata (right, wearing a white(ish) pull over sweater)

Oxen: Bhima & Yudhistira

What: Training young oxen.
When: Early 1970s
Where: The base of the driveway at Bahulaban, New Vrindaban.

Photographer unknown.

Thanks for participating. Let’s do it again next week!

Special Request: If you have a photo showcasing New Vrindaban residents in action, from the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s and ’00s, please send it to us and we can share it in a future posting.
